In some of the last moments Jesus had with His disciples, He taught them that to lead His people is to serve them. Yet, even in the church, the idol of status still overcomes us. When we follow Christ, by the power of His Spirit, we give it all up for His sake, and the sake of His good news proclaimed through us. To lead in the midst of God’s people is not for our own sake, but for the mission and purpose Christ has called us to, to reconcile the world to Him in the good news of His very death and resurrection.
