As we gather for worship, we continue the service begun last night with Holy Thursday. Following Jesus’ celebration of Passover, He was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. From there, our Savior fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah’s Suffering Servant. “He was wounded for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). Jesus willingly subjected Himself to abuse, ridicule, mocking, flogging, and finally death. He died the death we deserve, so that just as He lives we shall live also.
Stricken, smitten, and afflicted, See Him dying on the tree!
’Tis the Christ, by man rejected; Yes, my soul, ’tis He, ’tis He!
’Tis the long-expected Prophet, David’s Son, yet David’s Lord;
Proofs I see sufficient of it: ’Tis the true and faithful Word. [LSB 451, v. 1]
Join us for this special time of worship as we continue our journey through Holy Week. Worship will be available in person and online at 7p.
