Passage: Luke 2:21-32
Roughly 40 days after giving birth, Mary and Joseph travel to Jerusalem to make sacrifice for her purification after childbirth. Our readings make comparison between Mary and Hannah. Like the songs they both sing, we see how they both live by faith, dedicating their newborn sons to the Lord and trusting in His promises. As Simeon holds the infant Christ in the temple, he proclaims Jesus as the long-awaited Savior, the light for all nations. Through this moment, we witness God’s faithfulness and the fulfillment of His promise to redeem His people.
