We regularly confess in worship, our prayers, and with other people, that we trust God to provide, even in the most difficult of circumstances, but too often our behavior confesses something different. Instead of stewarding well and generously sharing that which God has provided, too often we keep God’s blessings to ourselves, or we justify our reasons for using them on ourselves. Ultimately, our generosity is a 1st Commandment issue – do we fear, love and trust in God to provide all that we need, including what we need to live generously, or we do trust in what we can do for ourselves?
