Passage: Matthew 5:17-20
In a modern world, where everything seems to fall into some mystical gray zone, it can be difficult to define “sin”. The Law unequivocally demands our perfection, and when we fail to live up to that perfection, we “miss the mark”, or more commonly, we sin. “Sin came into the world through one man”, Adam, and we have inherited his disobedience, while adding to it our own disobedience. However, where the Law condemns us, the Gospel of Jesus Christ redeems us. Where we have “missed the mark”, Jesus never did and never will. By God’s mercy, the good work of Christ on the cross, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, we are no longer captive to sin.
